ˇ§The Rainbow Connectionˇ¨ will coincide with ArtWalk 2007 on 7 March, one of the biggest events on the Hong Kong arts calendar. It will feature new and existing works by some of 82 Republicˇ¦s main artists, including Zhou Siwei, Li Li, Chan Yu, Wan Yang and Guo Hongwei - very different artists united by their keen awareness of colour, which they use both aesthetically and conceptually in their art.
Zhou Siwei departs from the red- and blue-toned works of his ˇ§Infectionˇ¨ series to corrupt the whole rainbow spectrum, Li Li cheerfully sets to work destroying rainbows in her pop-surrealist self-portraits, and Chan Yu whittles down the complex polychrome overlappings of his previous paintings to focus on single-toned repetition. Wan Yang gleefully bursts onto the canvas with explosive acrylic shades, while Guo Hongwei extracts figures from his familyˇ¦s faded colour photographs and projects them as monochrome reflections of the past.
